Arcade
Rising to prominence in the 1970's, Arcade gaming originated in 1971 with the introduction of Computer Space by the founders of Atari, Inc., who followed on that success the next year with the very first widely successful video game; Pong. With the enormous success of Pong, the industry grew modestly until the release of Space Invaders in 1978 and Pac-Man in 1980. Though enthusiasm for did waver in the 80's, the birth of fighting games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, alongside the emergence of 3D graphics saw a boom in arcade gaming in the 90's. Though now largely eclipsed by console gaming in the west, arcade gaming still has a strong influence and presence throughout Asia, where arcade gaming is huge.
